There is so much to see in Washington DC, and it was impossible to see everything. This trip was about monuments. On Wednesday, Sylvia and Bill to me to Arlington National Cemetary. Before doing any touristy stuff, we went and put flowers on my cousin, Russell’s, grave. I never knew him, and, sadly, he was very young when he died.
Arlington is an enormous, solemn place. While we were there, there was a funeral being held, with a horse drawn carriage, flag draped coffin, 20 gun salute. It was most likely for a young soldier killed in Iraq. We walked (in the heat of the day) up to the JFK Kennedy Memorial, then across to the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior where we watched to change of the guard.
